LEGEND 16 / 15
A benchmark for downriver canoes, the Legend 16's shallow arch, Royalex® by Spartech® hull and moderate rocker make this canoe durable, nimble and responsive on twisty rivers, yet respectable on open waters. It is also stable enough for learning whitewater paddling but challenging enough to help more experienced paddlers continue developing their skills.
Designed to repel wave and splash to keep the interior dry, it also has the capacity for extended, mixed-water trips. The Legend 16 maintains quality performance whether loaded or empty, making it a superior choice for whitewater expeditions.
The Expedition 186 / 176 is bringing tripping back in a big way. Designed with very little rocker and an asymmetrical hull, this hybrid composite "super" canoe will track true and stay on course throughout your entire journey.
Able to carry substantial gear while maintaining a rapid pace, this canoe also excels as a comfortable, yet high performance cruising hull when unburdened.
Experience the canoe that started it all on the rivers of Vermont. Mad River Canoe's and Jim Henry's original and much revered classic is truly a timeless design that, when it meets state-of-the art composite materials, is a truly unforgettable experience.
A carefully engineered matrix of Kevlar ©, fiberglass, carbon and core yields a hull that is lighter, faster, more responsive than earlier editions yet has retained in full measure the stability, surprising seaworthiness, and “spark” that has endeared the Malecite to multiple generations of paddlers, tandem or solo. It's a design that has been referred to as “Poetry in motion” by those that have paddled it.
This compact, responsive touring canoe is quiet and smooth with effortless straight-ahead efficiency on flat or moving water. It accelerates and holds speed with little effort and provides sufficient stability to host a couple of rambunctious kids, serve as a fisherman's base of operations, or support weekend camping trips.
The Reflection 15's & 17's modest weight and compact dimensions make it easy to handle on or off the water, loading and unloading or cruising rivers and lakes. With the efficiency and care-free durability of the Royalex® by Spartech® hull, you will find your journey just as rewarding as your destination.
The Heritage 14, 15, 16 is not so much a “here to there” canoe as it is a canoe to make the most of where you might be. Steady, reassuring, reliable yet light, it is particularly well-suited to sportsmen, but also makes a great “cottage” boat or summer camp canoe.
With a durable, foam-cored Royalex® by Spartech® hull deadening sound and insulating from cold water, the beamy (39” wide) shallow arch hull of the Heritage 14 offers rock-solid stability and a superb platform for hunting, fishing, bird-watching and photography. It is quick, short, and light-weight, making it easy to handle on and off the water, responsive on the water, and tolerant of paddlers on a learning curve who want a stable “poke around” canoe.
Care-free durability meets unrivaled versatility in this ultimate solo river-runner. A versatile boat, this canoe is capable of tracking across the flats as well as playing havoc in whitewater. Head out with a week's worth of camping gear, stopping to play in the whitewater rapids along the way with this durable, yet stiff Royalex® by Spartech® hull.
Unique from other solo canoes, it features a solid, stable platform for paddling, lacking the twitchiness that is characteristic of others in its class. Comfortable for beginners yet rewarding for accomplished paddlers, the Freedom Solo is worth getting to know.
A fiberglass construction, the Serenade is designed for those looking for easy paddling in a relatively lightweight, cost-effective, low-maintenance boat. This hybrid solo canoe merges the best attributes of a canoe with the best attributes of a kayak. While the hull and gunwales mirror that of a typical canoe, the unique seating system speaks to its kayak inspiration. Bridging the gap between a small, easy-portaging pack canoe and a solo hull, the Serenade is stable, comfortable, easy to paddle and cost-effective, providing an option for recreational paddlers who prefer to go solo.
At 13 feet, the shallow-vee asymmetrical hull is very stable and versatile. The open canoe design makes loading and unloading quick and easy. Truly an innovation for the hybrid canoe sector, the unique seating system comes with standard adjustable footbraces, leg-lifter support and innovative adjustability in a reclining seat for all-day comfort on the water. The seat is also removable, so it can double as outdoor seating on the shore.
The Serenade paddles most efficiently in protected waters like ponds, small lakes and marshes that are not likely to be exposed to wind and chop. For casual outings of fishing, photography, bird-watching or just cruising, the Serenade is the grab-and-go solo hybrid canoe for recreational paddlers.

Jim Henry, Mad River Canoe company founder, designed and built the first Malecite right around 1971. He then raced in – and won – the Downriver National Championship and the rest, you know. Word spread and demand grew. A tradition of innovation was born.
From the beginning, Mad River Canoe explored new designs and experimented with new materials. We were the first to introduce Kevlar™ to the canoe industry and among the pioneers to first mold our own Royalex® canoes.
We now offer a wider variety of hull designs than any other canoe manufacturer and continue to push ourselves and our designs to new levels of performance.
Our efforts have been rewarded with competitions won, accolades earned (including 3 “Manufacturer of the Year” awards from Canoe & Kayak magazine) and, most importantly, a growing base of loyal customers.
